Nefis Cosmetics is charged with unfair competition.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Republic of Tatarstan brought an action against Nefis Cosmetics Open Joint-stock company because of violation of the federal law “About protection of competition”. An appeal was forwarded by Reckitt Benckiser LLC to the Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Republic of Tatarstan in respect of the fact that Nefis Cosmetics illegally uses image of a piggy bank of pink color in combination with coins on the package of "Sorti super-econom" powdered detergent. The claimant states that the image is confusingly similar with International trademark № 651616 Pig Logo that is in force on the territory of the Russian Federation, the holder of this trademark is Reckitt Benckiser LLC (the Netherlands). Proceedings are on July 28, 2009.

Reckitt Benckiser LLC refused to give any comments. The head of a legal department of Nefis Cosmetics, Julia Blagynikh informed the following: “We took the appeal of Reckitt Benckiser LLC with a great surprise”. “Image of a piggy bank is a popular symbol of economy and thrift that is widely used in advertisement and design. That’s why we can speak only about similarity or differences of concrete images and they have nothing common”. According to words of Ms. Blagynikh the company has been producing "Sorti super-econom" the powdered detergent with its current design of the package for about a year and “Reckitt Benckiser has not contacted us in respect of any claims”.
